How long has NU Tub been in business?

Our company was founded in February 1989, and we have served about 4,500 customers in our first quarter-century-plus.

What is bathtub refinishing, and how is it done?

Bathtub refinishing is the practice of resurfacing worn or damaged bathtubs to like-new condition. Our process, which also can be used to refresh sinks and tile, involves several steps:

  • Removing the tub’s old caulking
  • Inspecting and thoroughly cleaning the tub surface
  • Lightly etching the tub, using acid on porcelain and hand-sanding fiberglass tub/showers
  • Applying a primer coat to ensure maximum bond
  • Applying three coats of our modified urethane coating (originally developed for NASA and used on the lunar rover). It is tough stuff that looks great and holds up well.

How long does the process take?

A porcelain tub takes about five hours to refinish; a fiberglass tub-shower unit takes seven to eight hours.

Will my refinished bathtub and tile look new?

Because of the quality of our coating and our superior application skills, most people won’t be able to tell the difference between new and refinished. We are sure that you will be very happy with the results. And since we offer a plethora of colors, this could be your chance to rid your home of avocado green.

How long does the refinished surface last?

With reasonable care, you can expect the coating to maintain its good looks for at least a decade — and maybe twice as long — without having to worry about “babying” the new surface. Just avoid highly abrasive cleaning products.

What is a tub or shower liner?

A liner is a high-gloss, custom measured, acrylic system that is installed on top of your existing bathtub, shower, or wall. We have a good selection of colors and styles to suit your needs and provide years of lasting beauty.

Will refinishing my bathtub or installing a liner save me money?

Yes — and it will save time too. Replacing a tub can get expensive when you consider the associated costs that could arise, even beyond tear-out and disposal. It’s impossible to remove and replace a bathtub without damaging the walls around it, for example, so drywall repairs and new wall tile or a tub surround are possible. You also may need a plumber to adjust the water supply or the drain, and new flooring could be necessary if the new tub has a different footprint than its predecessor. Installing a tub liner or refinishing with NU Tub will save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars compared to replacement costs.
